Volkswagen to Debut New Scirocco GTS at Leipzig Auto Show

To contact us Click HERE

Thirty years ago, Volkswagen launched the second generation of its Scirocco coupe - albeit based on the same platform as the original model.

To celebrate the occasion, the Wolfsburg automaker is reviving the Mk2's GTS moniker on a new edition of the current Scirocco, which will receive its public debut at this week's 2012 AMI in Leipzig, Germany.

The new Scirocco GTS is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI petrol with 207hp (210PS) and comes equipped with bespoke styling cues that hark back to the more colorful 1970s and 1980s.

On the outside, the package adds sportier front and rear bumpers, flared side skirts, black and red racing stripes running from the hood, over the roof and to the tailgate, red brake calipers and matching colored mirror caps, 18-inch wheels and black exhaust tips.

The same color theme continues inside with the black leather upholstery featuring red stitching, while the classic golf ball shift knob also makes a comeback on the manual gearbox model.

Mazda Rolls Out More Fuel Efficient Demio 13C-V Smart Edition II in Japan

To contact us Click HERE

Mazda has introduced a new model year version of its Demio supermini (known overseas as the Mazda2) in Japan.

Most notably, the Japanese automaker has updated the 13C-V Smart Edition with enhanced aerodynamics through the employment of a rear roof spoiler and undercover, which result in a 0.4km/L improvement in fuel economy, from 20.2km/L (47.5mpg US) to 20.6km/L (48.5mpg US) under Japan's JC08 mode test cycle.

While it may not seem much in absolute numbers, the improved fuel economy allows the Demio 13C-V Smart Edition II to qualify for a 50 percent reduction in the vehicle acquisition and weight taxes under Japan's eco-car tax reduction program.

Other model year changes across the range include the new Border Black seat color option for the Sporty Package and Comfort Package and the introduction of two new exterior colors named Stormy Blue Mica and Clear Water Blue Metallic.

This Pedestrian Doesn't Even Know How Lucky She is

While even stray dogs nowadays seem to comprehend the concept of looking both ways before walking across the road, some pedestrians insist on their "right" to walk in front of vehicles where there is no crosswalk.

Amazingly, even though this pedestrian was only inches away from meeting her (?) maker, she didn't even blink an eye. Head past the break for the short clip.

Artist Envisions Peugeot 301 RXH Crossover-ish Station Wagon

To contact us Click HERE

The recent unveiling of Peugeot's 301 budget compact sedan in advance of its world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September had Khalil Bouguerra from Virtuel-Car pondering what a crossover variant would look like.

The result is the 301 RXH modeled after Peugeot's larger 508 RXH.

The artist began the project by turning the 301 sedan into a station wagon model and then giving it some extra ride height while also applying the usually styling trickery seen in these types of vehicles such as the chunky plastic cladding to protect the bodywork.

It's too early to know if Peugeot has any plans to expand the range of the 301, but the RXH is one variant we could see the French brand offering in the not so distant future, especially in western Europe.

Kewl Volkswagen Original Parts Promotion Has Viewers Clicking on Spoof Videos

An advertisement doesn't necessarily have to be "in your face" to be effective. For example, take a look at the promotional concept that Brazilian ad agency AlmapBBDO prepared for Volkswagen's genuine auto parts.

The agency came up with the idea of placing special banners on popular video spoofs on YouTube. The ad reads, "Don’t accept imitations. Prefer original parts. Click here."

However, instead of pointing towards a VW site, by clicking the banner, viewers were redirected from the copy to the original song.

According to the agency, for every $100 spent, the banners generated 125,000 views and around 500 clicks.

First Look: Pixar Short Film "La Luna"

To contact us Click HERE

Pixar released this new photo of a new pixar short film titled "La Luna". It will likely be attached to the release of Brave in 2012. It will be directed by Enrico Casarosa and music will be by Michael Giacchino. Enrico joined pixar in 2002, working as a story artist for Ratatouille, Up and Cars. Here is the official description: La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?

A day after Pixar unveiled the new short film "La Luna", comes the release of the logo title card. La Luna translates to "the moon" in Italian and Spanish, so i'd assume it probably has something to do with the moon. La Luna's running time is 6 minutes and 53 seconds making it the longest pixar short by nearly one minute. Kevin Reher, the producer of the pixar shorts "Day & Night" and "Partly Cloudy" will be producer of "La Luna".

Cars 2: Soundtrack Details Released

To contact us Click HERE
On June 14th, the Cars 2 soundtrack will be available for purchase on CD and digital download. Today, we are learning new details of the songs that will be on it. Just like the original Cars soundtrack, Cars 2 will feature both songs and original songs made for the film. Brad Paisley who worked on the first Cars, will return with two new songs for Cars 2, working with Robbie Williams, a well known Britain recording song artist who has sold 57 billion albums worldwide.
Beginning with the Cars 2 "Original Songs":

The first song is called "Collision of Worlds" written and performed as a duet by Brad and Robbie. Robbie says "It's an international kind of song that's inspired by very much of the film - it wouldn't exist if it weren't for the story. Brad turned up with his guitar and a basic understanding of what he wanted the song to sound like. He played me a few chords and we noodled and twiddled our way into forming this song. It’s back and forth colloquialisms between two different countries speaking the same language and not understanding each other—until now".
The second song is called "Nobody's Fool", written and performed by Brad. “It’s inspired by the most heartbreaking scene in the movie,” says Paisley. “Mater realizes that everybody thinks he’s playing the fool and he becomes sort of enlightened and realizes that he’s not playing the fool—he is one. But Mater realizes he is who he is and that was inspiring to me.”
Other songs that will be on the soundtrack, include Japanese girl band Perfume’s hit single “Polyrhythm” when Lightning and Mater attend the World Grand Prix opening night gala in Tokyo. Giacchino also wrote a French song called “Mon coeur fait vroum,” (“My Heart Goes Vroom”) which is sung for the film by the popular and admired French singer/songwriter Bénabar, providing a musical introduction to Paris. The lyrics for the song are by Giacchino and Scott Langteau with French adaptation by Boualem Lamhene. Bénabar’s self-titled album, released in 2001, launched a phenomenally successful singing career. In 2006, his album, “Reprise de Negociations,” was a top seller in Europe, and led to several major music industry awards the following year. Also, providing their own unique take on the 1984 pop hit, “You Might Think” (written by Ric Ocasek and originally performed by The Cars) is the chart-topping, multi-platinum-selling American alternative rock band Weezer. Weezer burst on the scene in 1992, and has produced nine albums to date. “The song is going to play in the scene where Lightning McQueen and Mater go to Japan,” says Weezer’s Brian Bell, “which is great for us because it sort of mirrors our experiences in Japan—there was a little bit of culture shock.”

According to amazon's listing of the soundtrack, there are 26 tracks all together including Michael Giacchino's musical score. Director John Lasseter said this "Michael is doing such a cool score for the film. We did not want to do a typical spy movie score. We wanted it to be something very different–a whole new approach.”
Cars 2 releases in theaters June 24th, as I'm counting down the days. Almost there, guys! And of course, the soundtrack becomes available on June 14th.

Brave: New 'Kilt' Featurette, Film Rated PG by MPAA

To contact us Click HERE

A new Brave featurette was released today, and focuses on the kilts that the bold Scottish men wear in the film. Watch it, and ask yourself the question: "Are you brave enough to wear one?"

Brave sure looks like it is going to be quite the funny movie. I found myself chuckling a couple of times when watching this featurette. I honestly think, though, that while the goofiness of the lords will not fail to amuse, the triplets will generate the most laughs.
Also, the end of the featurette reveals the rating that the Motion Picture Association of America, or MPAA, has placed on Brave. The film has been rated PG, as was speculated by many, given the dark tone that has been shown to us in the trailers, as well as the little bits of crude humor. This marks the third time a Pixar film is given a PG rating, after The Incredibles and Up.

Hilarious 'Brave' Clips Feature Merida's Family

To contact us Click HERE

Two clips from Brave have made their debut online. They give us a closer look at Merida's family members.
In this first one, the triplets (up to no good as usual) steal a little stash of sweets from a woman. It's hit and run for these little criminals.

The next one shows us the family dinner scene from the film, where Fergus tells the story of his risky encounter with the beast Mor'du. Be sure to pay attention to what the triplets are doing in this clip as well.

The triplets steal the show, I must say. I literally laughed out loud in the second clip. These three wee guys have now officially become some of my favorite Pixar characters. I can't wait to see more of their shenanigans.
Only a little bit over a month left!

Trailer for Brave Video Game

To contact us Click HERE

The video game adaptation of Brave will hit store shelves this year, and here is the first trailer for the game.

I have to admit, it does not look as good as the Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 video games did, and I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that this one isn't being developed by Avalanche Software, as the TS3 and Cars 2 ones were. And also, I haven't heard a lot about Pixar being closely involved with the development of this one, so it may turn out to be like any standard video game adaptation of a movie. The Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 games are, without a doubt, the best video games based on a movie that I have ever played. I could be wrong about this Brave one though, so I will give it a try.
Of course, this video game doesn't one bit affect my intense excitement for the actual movie!

I had the chance to finally watch Marvel's The Avengers on Friday, and I also happened to stumble upon this neat little Pixar Avengers mash-up. How do you like this Pixar/Avengers mash-up? Who is your favorite Pixar Avenger from the mash-up? Have you gotten the chance to see The Avengers yet?

A couple of weeks ago, the same dudes who are working on the ambitious project of transforming the first Toy Story into live-action posted their live-action take on the heartbreaking yet heartwarming finale scene from Toy Story 3. They did an unbelievable job:

Also, Toystructor, a reader of this blog, emailed this fantastic video of a remote-controlled Mater crashing into a wall of Jenga blocks - in slow motion. Everything is cool in slow motion, but this...this will blow your mind.

It's amazing what all the imaginative folks out there can create, don't you think?

When Will We See 'Small Fry' on Home Video?

To contact us Click HERE

The second Toy Story Toon after Hawaiian Vacation, entitled Small Fry, hit theaters in November with Disney's The Muppets. Now, Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang have made their way onto DVD and Blu-ray, but Small Fry is nowhere to be found on the home release of the film.
This doesn't very much shock me, however. While Pixar may sometimes premiere their shorts in front of non-Pixar films (Tokyo Mater first debuted with Disney's Bolt), these short films will never show up on the actual home video release of the film with which they were released with in theaters. So when will we get the chance to see Small Fry on our own televisions?
Some people expect it to be on the Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 2. Volume 1 showcased all of Pixar's short films from the company's first 20 years (1986 to 2006). Fans are anticipating Volume 2 to be released sometime in the near future, and see it as a possibility for Small Fry to debut on the home video format. Of course, it has not yet been announced when Volume 2 will arrive, and it could be a fairly long time away.
Another possibility, which I see as a much more likely one, is Small Fry being on the Brave home release. Last year Cars 2 had Hawaiian Vacation, so I don't see why they couldn't put Small Fry with Brave this year. And Pixar almost always includes two short films with each of their films, so Brave would probably come with La Luna and Small Fry.
I guess only time will tell when Small Fry will come home, but I have high hopes for early November of this year with Brave!

Merida Is a Swordfighter in New 'Brave' Stills

To contact us Click HERE

Pixar released even more stills from Brave recently, and they are honestly two of my personal favorites. We had already learned that Merida was an amazing archer, but now in these new pics she proves her skills when wielding a sword.
In the first one (see above), Merida and her father Fergus have a friendly duel outside the DunBroch castle, and meanwhile Queen Elinor, a strict woman, frowns down upon them.

This second still seems to be taken from later on in the film, and again shows Merida with a sword, as a group of people, including Lord Dingwall, tie up a helpless bear. This will surely turn out to be a very suspenseful scene in the film.
The wait will soon be coming to a close, as June 22 comes closer and closer each day. Brave is almost here, everybody.

Heartwarming Brave Promo, Merida Arrives at Disney Parks

To celebrate Mother's Day, Pixar released a new promo for its new film Brave today. I can honestly say that it is the most touching of all the trailers/TV spots, and pretty much proves that Brave will be another tear-jerker. And for the first time, we get to see a young Merida, and she is just absolutely adorable.

I am already extremely fond of the characters in Brave, and the story completely captivates me. And after seeing this promo, I can tell that I most likely won't leave the theater with dry eyes. Those guys at Pixar sure are masters at inducing deep emotion into their precious stories, which is part of why their stories and characters are so loved around the world.

Also, Merida has been beginning to make appearences at Epcot in Orlando, Florida. She seems very energetic, and I would give a lot just to get to meet her there in person. I'd probably be a little speechless, though. Take a look at these videos below and see how Merida interacts with guests.

Brave takes aim at theaters on June 22!

An Interview with Mark Andrews - Reveals Who John Ratzenberger's Voicing in Brave

Briefly, Holy Moly! an entertainment and celebrity news site, has an interview with Brave director, Mark Andrews, about the upcoming film. Mainly the interview is your standard interview stuff: 'the film looks great', 'what were its origins?', etc..., etc..., however, one particular point of interest for Pixar fans, is that Andrews finally sheds light on John Ratzenberger's role in the film!

John Ratzenberger, the actor who has voiced a character in every Pixar film, from Hamm in the Toy Story films, to the Abominable Snowman in Monsters, Inc., has become as famous and craved in Pixar films as the Pizza Planet Truck or A113 (the code for which this site is named). For several months, throughout all of the fantastic trailers, great concept art and voice cast reveals, it's not been mentioned who Ratzenberger will be voicing, and this is the first article I've seen that sheds light on the matter.

The following exert comes from Holy Moly!'s interview with Andrews, after enquiring about the Pizza Planet Truck (yes, it will be there... in 12th century Scotland):

On the insider joke front then how's John Ratzenberger's Scottish accent?
MA:"Er… it's good. It's not bad. He had a couple of goes at it. But yeah he got it. He's one of the guards in the back. If you can't pick him out, we've done our job and nailed it.""

So, there you have it, you may not be able to recognise him, but John Ratzenberger will be voicing a Scottish guard.
Brave's director also mentioned a distaste for Disney films and the classic fairytale story, so if you hadn't already gleaned that Brave won't be your average fairytale, prepare now.
Check out the full interview over at Holy Moly!

Seth MacFarlane's Flintstones Reboot Shelved

It was reported around this time last year that 20th Century Fox had acquired the rights to reboot The Flintstones from Warner Bros. The reboot was being handled by Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad, a purported super-fan of the series. The reinvisioned version of the beloved Hanna-Barbera show was due out in 2013, but has now been delayed for the foreseeable future.

The show has been put on hold, with no mention of when production may resume again, to accommodate MacFarlane's insanely busy schedule. In addition to the previous trifecta of Fox shows, MacFarlane is also working on Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey - a successor to Carl Sagan's Cosmos - and awaiting the release of his first feature film, Ted. So, it's no surprise that he would find it difficult to accommodate time for The Flintstones in there - even though the reboot is said to be a passion project for him, given his lifelong love of the show.
In addition, sources indicate that the script hasn't gone down all too well so far, with Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly telling MacFarlane that he liked it, but didn't love it. Whilst the show hasn't been scrapped, it has been postponed indefinitely, until such a time that MacFarlane has room in his schedule to work and rework the show's script. Several staff members have been let go, with MacFarlane looking into finding places at American Dad for others.
The idea seemed a little bizarre from the start: an animator and director renowned for his raunchy and often offensive humour, tackling the remake of such a beloved and revered show; but MacFarlane's love for the series is blatant and it would've been interesting to see where this went. Here's hoping it's back on track soon.

New Brave Images Show Merida's Swordplay

To contact us Click HERE

Disney and Pixar have released two new images from their next feature film, Brave. These newest images both show the film's fiery-haired protagonist, Merida, practising her swordplay, but are polar opposites in tone. The first image (above) details a scene, presumably, from towards the end of the film, showing a tense, dramatic test of strength, with Merida standing centre, wielding a large sword.

The second (below) shows the very different relationships Merida has with her parents; showing jolly, fun-filled sword practice with her father, King Fergus, whilst her mother, Queen Elinor, lingers in the background, looking her over.

Be sure to click to see the enlarged high-res versions; Pixar never skimp on the detail.

Brave is due out on 22nd June in the US, and 17th August here in the UK.

Classic Cartoons #5 - Steamboat Willie

I'm sure using this short film now will come back to bite me when I do my Bitesized Biography of Walt Disney and am in need of a short film to pair with it, but today's Classic Cartoon is the third Mickey Mouse cartoon, but the one that is often regarded as the mainstream debut of the famed mouse, the cartoon that put Walt Disney on the map - Steamboat Willie.

I'm currently amidst reading the biography of Walt Disney by Neal Gabler and what it stresses heavily, and what comes through when watching this short film, is how important this short film was to the early years of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Released in 1928, Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey cartoon to be distributed, and became a phenomenal success - much needed after a string of knock-backs and failures from the Disney studio; Willie provided them their big break. Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey to be synchronised with sound, and whilst that was surely a contributing factor in its success, another surely is the fantastic characters and timeless storytelling. Though quite the little sadist here, using animals as musical instruments, Mickey was and is a sign of the eternal optimism and childlike joy that Disney himself represented. The story, simple in premise, remains brilliant today, at 7 minutes, the short flies by and remains possibly the truest definition of a Classic Cartoon.

Inducted into the National Film Registry, to be preserved forever, in 1998, the starting sequence of the short is now widely recognisable for its prefacing of Disney animated releases. Steamboat Willie is the epitome of classic Disney storytelling.

Where can I start? Where can I possibly start? Starting atthe beginning would require delving back to 2008, when Iron Man and TheIncredible Hulk were released. These two films were the beginning of aMarvel-lous work of cinema. Following the aforementioned films came Iron Man 2(2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011, also). Thiswas the beginning of the Avengers… It was here the Avengers were to, indeed, assemble.

Directed by Joss Whedon (who helped write the Toy Story 1script; produced hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse and Firefly)meant that great things were expected. And boasting a cast of incredibly talentedactors – Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man); Chris Evans (Captain America); MarkRuffalo (The Hulk); Chris Hemsworth (Thor); Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow)…etc, put a lot of pressure onto what was already expected from this film:wonders. It definitely delivered. Another point worth making: so manysuperheroes. In a one-superhero film it seems perfectly… perfect, seeing themtake the limelight. In The Avengers, so many heroes – who was to dominate?Chris Hemsworth (Thor) was interviewed by Empire Magazine and quoted saying“It’s not an easy mix. They [the characters] all have some friction”. However,Whedon pulled it off…
I must say, I expectedaction-action-action-serious-save-the-world. Instead, there were genuinemoments in which the whole cinema-audience were laughing: the children, theteenagers, the grandparents… It was brilliant. Of course, even Whedon has theOne-Liner illness, but it was very much appreciated in this case. Of course, being the witty, handsome, rich, ex-weapon-maker, Tony Stark (Downey Junior)was given most of these. The occasional “guys, I’m bringing the party to you”and “I don’t play well with others” was much appreciated. The Hulk, terrifyingat times, also proved to be a character that could inspire hilarity to thepoint of hysteria – unfortunately, Loki found out the wrong way that the Hulkcould indeed “bully” a God.
The camera work was stunning; the acting was stunning; themusic was stunning. There is so much to praise.
The Avengers followsanother of Earth’s plights – honestly, will we ever not be the target of an alternate race?! – this time the product ofLoki’s unwanted administrations. Loki steals the Tesseract (an object creatinga portal from Asgard to Earth) and uses it to unleash an army unto Earth, hoping – in typical villain style – to conquer Earth with his army and allies. However, one thing Loki couldn’t possibly have foreseen: The Avengers. All ofthe superheroes gathered to make a team, a rescue-mission for Earth. Or, as TheHulk (Ruffalo) put it: “not a team, we’re a time bomb”. Sure, the crew haverough patches – which friendship groups don’t? Friendship groups. Yes. That’swhat they are like: there’s the one who acts like a prat, and in doing so,becomes wittily charming – that would be Tony Stark (Downey Jr.). Then there’sthe one who doesn’t get on with him – Captain America (Evans). Then you havethe geek, who they use for science as well as credit – Hulk. The two assassins, which friendship group doesn’t have assassins? – those being Hawkeye (JeremyRenner) and Black Widow (Johansson). Then there is Thor.
Confession time: I love Thor. There we go. Deep breaths. Iam limiting myself to that little smidgen of adoration. Be thankful.
And of course, the leader of this rag-tag gang? It couldonly be Nick Fury, played incredibly well by Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson hasthis character down to a ‘T’. He masters the brooding, commanding Fury, rockingthe eye-patch all the while. It is hard not to appreciate acting like his, where he has obviously thought long and hard about his character, and it shows.
I’m going to stop ranting and raving now, because it couldget out of hand, especially if I start on Thor again… He is wonderful, though.Acting skills, heroic-abilities and all. Sorry. I digress.
Ten out of ten. Nothing less. If there was an eleven, itwould be that. Highly amusing, but not too much, filled with action, likeablecharacters – and legitimately unlikeablecharacters – brilliant acting and directing. High standard.
I wouldn’t expect anything less.
