Special or limited editions are a speedy and cost efficient way for automakers to create some marketing buzz around one of their models and increase sales. More often than not, all it takes is a few cosmetic touches and added equipment features, and presto; your special edition is served.

One such example is the new Volkswagen Beetle Edition 53, a special edition model made exclusively for Spain that pays tribute to Walt Disney Pictures' "Herbie" character, which first appeared on film in 1968 with "The Love Bug" that spawned several sequels over the years.

VW's real life Herbie gets a white paint job accentuated by red and blue stripes on the doors, the hood and the rear tailgate along with the number "53" on the bonnet and the "Escarabajo" (Spanish for Beetle) logo on the tailgate.

Additional standard features include Park Pilot parking assist sensor, a tire pressure monitor and 17-inch wheels.

Customers in Spain can choose from four powertrain options ranging from the 105PS 1.2-liter TSI petrol to the 140PS 2.0-liter TDI linked to a 6-speed DSG transmission, with prices starting from €22,090 (US$28,400).

Rail Buff Films Train Crashing into a Water Truck in Utah, Amazingly, No One Hurt

Have you heard of the old saying of being "in the right place at the right time"? If anything else, this holds true for a Utah man who was filming trains in the city of Wellington in Carbon County this past Friday with his iPhone.

In the YouTube video's description, James Wood says he was recording video for his 4-year old son at 100 E. Railroad Avenue in Wellington when he captured footage of a train ripping through a water truck that was crossing the tracks at that precise moment.

The impact destroyed the vehicle but miraculously, the man who filmed the crash said that the two men inside the truck escaped unscathed, while the train conductor told him that the two men aboard the rail vehicle were also unharmed.

Wellington Police Chief Lee Berry confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident. "They are lucky," Berry told The Salt Lake Tribune. "One second later and they would have been wrapped around the train."

Berry said that while there are no crossing arms at the intersection, there are "signs, flashing lights and a bell", which should have warned the truck driver.

Speaking to Todays THV, Wood told reporters that right after the crash, he abandoned his camera and ran towards the truck expecting to find casualties. “He got out of the truck [and] I said, ‘Are you alright,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m fine. And I said, ‘Dude, you are the luckiest man alive right now,’” Wood said.

Police is currently investigating the incident. .

If you scroll down, you will find Wood's description of the accident on YouTube and footage from the crash.

James Woods Describes the Accident on YouTube:

"While working out in Wellington, UT, I witnessed a train collision with a water truck. I happened to get it on video because I was taping the train for my 4-year old son, who is a big fan of Thomas the Train. As I started recording, I was looking down to see where the train was, and panned the camera over to the engine and followed it to the crossing. Little did I realize that it was about to destroy the water truck.

I turned away for a moment just before the collision to see how long the train was and heard what sounded like a stick of dynamite exploding, only to turn back to see the truck being mauled to death by the train. I was stunned for a moment because it was surreal to see this happening right before me.

After I gathered myself, I turned off the camera and ran as fast as I could to help the men inside the truck. I was expecting to see bodies when I got there. Thank God the two men were okay - not even a scratch.

That was one heck of a ride for them, and they are the luckiest men I know. I literally witnessed a miracle because despite the fact that the train destroyed the truck, the men inside were okay and they are alive, and will be going home to their families tonight.

I spoke to the conducter on the train, and the two men aboard are okay as well. I'm so thankful that this didn't end as bad as it could have, and will keep these men, and their families, in my prayers tonight."

You have probably already heard the rumors about Lamborghini getting ready for the presentation of the new roadster version of the Aventador LP700-4 this fall, and now, a member of the Teamspeed forums with the nickname "D55L" claims to have received a special invitation for the U.S. launch of the car in Miami, Florida next Monday, November 12.

The invitation is titled "Our most powerful roadster ever. The excitement is sky high" and then goes on to say that the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is "crafted from an ultra-rigid carbon fibre monocoque for strength with light weight" and will be powered by the same 691hp (700PS) 6.5-liter V12 linked to an all-wheel drive system found in the coupe.

The forum member also noted in the posting that the open-top Lamborghini will make its world premiere at the 2012 LA Auto Show at the end of the month.

Evidently, we will have to wait and see if the invitation is real or not.

According to the rumormill, the V12-powered Aventador Roadster will likely be equipped with a retractable hardtop made of lightweight materials, similar in style to those employed by the McLaren MP4-12C Spider and Ferrari 459 Italia Spider.

Renault and Caterham Officially Join Forces to Resurrect Alpine Brand

It's no secret that Renault was looking for a partner to revive its Alpine sports car brand and now the French carmaker says it has found it in the Caterham Group.

The two companies made the wedding official today during a press conference in Paris where they announced the formation of a new 50-50 joint venture to develop both Alpine and Caterham-branded sports cars on common underpinnings and built at Renault's plant in Dieppe in northern France.

The Caterham Group will own a 50% stake in the Automobiles Alpine Renault company, which is currently owned 100 percent by Renault SAS. The Société des Automobiles Alpine Caterham (SAAC) venture will be created in January 2013 and will be headed by Bernard Ollivier, who became vice president of Renault in 2011.

Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault commented: "This innovative partnership with Caterham embodies a longstanding ambition: the creation of a sports car with the Alpine DNA. It carries both opportunities for the Dieppe plant and the development of its historic expertise."

Renault and Caterham, which already cooperate in Formula 1 racing, where the French brand's engines are fitted on a Caterham-built chassis, said that they will each bring their respective technical skills to the development of the future products through a newly-created joint Engineering Department. The two companies will split the engineering and industrial costs on a 50-50 basis.

"The objective for each company is to launch its own car in this market within the next three to four years," the two partners said in a joint statement.

The Caterham- and Alpine-branded sports cars will share a common platform architecture but according to their makers, each model will "be distinctive, differentiated, and carry the respective DNA" of the two companies.

No other details were given about the future Caterham and Alpine models that will be manufactured exclusively at the Alpine plant in Dieppe (which currently builds RenaultSport production models like the Clio RS and race cars), but Renault officials have previously mentioned that the cars will be rear-wheel drive, without clarifying if the engines will be mounted up front or in the middle.

Renault gave us a taste of what to expect from Alpine in the near future with the stunning A110-50 Concept earlier this year. The study was built on the chassis of Megane Trophy racecar with power coming from a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine sourced from Nissan rated for 395bhp (400PS) at 7,200rpm and 311 lb-ft at 6,200rpm.

Alpine's first road-going model is believed to be less extreme but also more affordable than what the A110-50 would have cost if it were to enter production.

On the behalf of Caterham, the company's deputy chairman Dato Kamarudin Meranun said he was extremely pleased with the new joint venture with Renault and its Alpine brand.

"Our original plans to develop a partnership with Lotus were put aside in spectacular and well documented style, but now we have a far better chance to develop Caterham Cars in partnership with Renault, working with Caterham Technology who are also integrally involved in this new venture," said Meranun .

"Our F1 team has already been working successfully with Renaultsport F1 since the start of the 2011 F1 season and I am thrilled that now we are adding to our track partnership by joining forces with Renault on the road. Together with Renault, we have now created an opportunity for Caterham Cars to grow into the next stage of its development from a very well respected niche brand into a serious player on the global motoring map."

Seat Ibiza Cupra Facelift Appears in Final Production Trim, Goes from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 6.9 sec

To contact us Click HERE

After being displayed as a thinly disguised concept model at this year's Auto China Show in Beijing, the revamped Seat Ibiza Cupra has now been revealed in production form.

The facelifted model inherits all the styling changes seen on the regular Ibiza family including the wider front grille and then some more in the guise of a bespoke aero package with new front and rear bumpers, LED headlamps and rear combination lights, exclusive 17-inch wheels, black mirror caps and a rear diffuser housing a central trapezoidal tailpipe.

The interior revisions are limited to a new sports steering wheel with the CUPRA logo, and the shift paddles for the DSG transmission, plus new trim colors and a redesigned entertainment system.

Underneath the hood, you will find the same 1.4-liter petrol engine that uses a turbocharger and a supercharger as well as direct injection to deliver 178hp (180PS) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft) linked to a seven-speed DSG gearbox as before.

The latest Ibiza Cupra returns a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 142 mph (228km/h), with an average fuel consumption of 47.9 mpg UK (equal to 5.9lt/100km and 39.9mpg US).

Other performance upgrades over the standard car include a tuned and lowered chassis, Seat's XDS electronic differential lock, a re-tuned ESP electronic stability system incorporating hill start, and an optional AP Performance braking system.

In the United Kingdom, the facelifted Seat Ibiza Cupra will arrive in dealerships in January of 2013 priced at £18,825, with order books opening next week.

New Seasonal Header: Halloween 2012

To contact us Click HERE
This week, I put up this year's brand-new Halloween header for the blog, as you may have noticed. Paul Robin, the fantastic artist that provides all the seasonal headers for Pixar Corner, never fails to impress with his artwork.
In last year's Halloween logo, the classic Pixar luxo ball was replaced by a jack o' lantern with the face of Mike Wazowski. This year, however, the ball seems to have acquired a couple of pimples, a large, ugly, crooked nose, and to top it all off, a pointy witch's hat. Perhaps it is taking on the form of the witch from this year's Brave.
Paul Robin has also put up a new adventure on his personal blog, where he and his friend Timmy Worm dress up as the Dynamic Duo! Be sure to check out his blog and suggest your very own Paul Robin adventure!
We hope you like the header; look forward to seeing even more phenomenal Paul Robin logos on this blog very soon!
What will you be dressing up as for Halloween this year?
